About Us

Who’s the face behind Food Writer Friday?

Maureen ShawMaureen Shaw (orgasmicchef.com) and Helene Dsouza (masalaherb.com) joined together to give the world a peek at the personalities behind the popular food blogs we know and love.

Both Maureen and Helene have been cooking, photographing and writing about food for quite a while and have made many food friends on the Internet and are respected by their peers.

Maureen and Helene have never met in person as Helene lives in Goa, India (she’s from Kitzbühel, Austria) and Maureen lives on the Sunshine Coast of Australia in Queensland (she’s from Maine in the US) but they’re fast friends who share a great love for food, people and the world wide web.

They say that anyone with a net connection can be a writer but it takes real passion to be a food writer.  We can’t get up in the morning and go to our computer and write a post and then go on to promote the post.

First, a food blogger must decide what to write about, shop for the ingredients, prepare the dish, photograph the dish, write the recipe, optimize the photos and THEN write the post but only if the dish tastes good.  If it’s a #FAIL then it’s back to the store for more ingredients.  Maybe not all food writers have oopses but I promise you, we all have them.

We hope to showcase food writers every Friday, so if you’d like to be interviewed, click the contact page and let us know.  Let us say right now that if your blog is brand new, has recipes from the back of a soup can or is difficult to read, we’re going to decline.  We love you but we want the best blogs featured here.  It’s not about how big your blog is, it’s the quality of the photography, the recipes and your writing.

If you want to know more about us, feel free to contact us, we don’t bite.
